Illinois is a mandate state, and its Attorney General literally wrote the consumer warning about paid title-lock services — the fact sheet is titled “Be Wary of Home Title Lock Services” and points residents to free Recorder of Deeds alerts. Roughly 80 Illinois counties run on Fidlar's Property Fraud Alert (one signup site, county by county); Cook County runs its own alert through the County Clerk. Verified Illinois counties are in the table; the rest are being confirmed against individual recorder pages rather than guessed.
